This Saturday, December 7, Paris celebrates a historic moment: the reopening of Notre-Dame, almost five years after the fire that ravaged the cathedral. An event of major symbolic significance, with a speech by the President of the Republic scheduled for late afternoon on the forecourt, in the presence of numerous personalities, including the American president-elect, Donald Trump.
The evening will continue with a concert at 9pm, also on the forecourt. However, weather conditions are likely to complicate this commemorative day.
After the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games this summer, it's the turn of the long-awaited reopening of Notre-Dame de Paris to be marked by the presence of bad weather. According to Météo France, the capital will be hit by a windy and rainy disturbance, particularly affecting the northern half of the country. Wind gusts of up to 60-70 km/h are expected in the afternoon, accompanied by regular showers. Although winds are expected to ease slightly in the evening, they will remain at around 50 to 60 km/h.
La Chaîne Météo warns of a potentially more severe scenario, with gusts that could exceed 70 km/h during the afternoon. Temperatures will fluctuate between 6°C and 8°C, but the effect of the wind will accentuate the sensation of cold, with temperatures close to 0°C.
For the 40,000 participants expected to attend, we strongly advise you to bring warm clothing and protection from the rain to face these difficult conditions. The American GFS model predicts even stronger gusts, up to 80 km/h, although these forecasts still need to be adjusted.
Despite the vagaries of the weather, this event marks a milestone in the rebirth of Notre-Dame de Paris, testifying to the resilience and attachment of Parisians to this architectural and spiritual jewel. We'll have to brave the wind and rain to experience this historic moment, which will live long in the memory.
