More than five years after the tragic fire that ravaged Notre-Dame de Paris, the cathedral is finally preparing to reopen its doors. On Saturday December 7 and Sunday December 8, 2024, some 50 heads of state are expected to attend. Security measures have been deployed around Notre-Dame, with several metro and RER stations scheduled to be closed. We tell you all about it.

On Saturday December 7 and Sunday December 8, 2024, many eyes will be on Paris. More than five years after the Notre-Dame fire, the restored edifice reopens its doors thanks to the skills of several thousand craftsmen and architects who have worked tirelessly on the site.

To mark the occasion, a grand reopening weekend is scheduled for December 7 and 8, with a program including the awakening of the organ, as well as a concert featuring Renaud and Gautier Capuçon, Lang Lang and Angélique Kidjo.

Due to the presence of numerous heads of state and government, the Prefect of Police of Paris, Laurent Nuñez, has announced the implementation of security measures around the cathedral throughout the weekend."Inspired by the Olympic Games ceremony", this security arrangement will entail the closure of several metro and RER stations on these December 7 and 8, 2024. This was stated by Laurent Nuñez in the columns of Le Parisien on December 1.

So, which stations should you avoid this weekend in Paris? As announced by the Préfet de police de Paris in the daily newspaper, RATP has announced that three metro stations in the vicinity of Notre-Dame de Paris will be closed on Saturday and Sunday. The stations in question are Saint-Michel (line 4, RER B and RER C), Cité (line 4) and Pont-Neuf (line 7).

In detail, Saint-Michel and Cité stations on metro line 4 will be inaccessible all day Saturday, and until 8pm on Sunday. For these two stations, please note that trains will run on metro line 4 and RER line B, but will not stop. Pont-Neuf station (line 7) will be closed on Saturday from 5pm to 11pm, and on Sunday from 9am to 2.30pm.

Line C of the RER will also be affected by these disruptions. Traffic will be interrupted between Paris Austerlitz and Invalides stations from 4pm on Saturday. On Sunday, however, there will be no interrupted traffic on RER line C, apart from the closed Saint-Michel station.

As a result of the security perimeter, buses usually crossing the Ile de la Cité will be diverted, but the lines will continue to operate (lines 21, 27, 38, 47, 58, 63, 67, 70, 75, 86, 87, 89, 96 and N12, N13, N14, N15, N21, N22). RATP will therefore implement route detour .

Reopening of Notre-Dame de Paris: metro and RER stations closed

  • Saint-Michel station (line 4, RER B and RER C) and Cité station (line 4) closed all day Saturday December 7, then Sunday December 8 until 8pm;

  • Pont-Neuf metro station (line 7) closed on Saturday December 7 from 5pm to 11pm, then on Sunday December 8 from 9am to 2.30pm;

  • RER C: traffic interruption on Saturday December 7 from 4pm until the end of service between Invalides and Gare d'Austerlitz.
