Their action is contested and the IGPN has been seized after the disclosure of a recording during an arrest that went wrong. But what is the Brav-M, these brigades of repression of violent motorized actions that we see more and more during the demonstrations against the pension reform? Created in 2019 by the then prefect of police of Paris, Michel Delpuech, they were intended to calm down the yellow vests demonstrations.
Their goal is to quickly disperse the processions, hence their action on motorcycles. They move in pairs, one on foot, the other on a motorcycle, and their goal is efficiency, with quick arrests. The Brav-M are only supposed to be called upon during particularly tense demonstrations, where violence is expected.
During the demonstrations against the pension reform, the actions of the Brav-M were particularly decried. Several deputies of La France Insoumise asked for their dismantling and the IGPN was seized after the disclosure of an audio recording that is controversial. Members of the Brav-M can be heard intimidating, beating and threatening demonstrators. Laurent Nuñez, the current Prefect of Police of Paris, has condemned these remarks as "unacceptable" .
