No need for night-time lighting with this new cycle path, which lights up at night thanks to photoluminescence! Ride your bike in complete peace of mind between Pussay and Angerville, in the Essonne region, thanks to the ground markings on the 3km path running alongside the D838. The concept? The pale yellow paint used allows the light stored throughout the day to be restored at night, for almost 10 hours!
While this type of cycle path already exists in France, it's a first in the Paris region, and a real pleasure for cyclists who leave for work early or come home late, or those who just want to enjoy a short ride without the heat of the day. This environmentally-friendly solutionavoids the light pollution of conventional lighting, while costing less. Created by the Olikrom company, the paint is visible up to 80m into the night and lasts for 10 years on a bike lane.
According to departmental councillor Sophie Rigault in Le Parisien, "if this experiment is a success, the same device could be deployed on other roads in the department". A metal barrier has also been installed on the départementale, to separate the bike lane from cars and ensure greater safety.
