As more and more people in the Ile-de-France region take the bicycle to get around, the region is taking on the task of proposing a region-wide network of bike paths to make these trips safer. An initiative born in 2019 from a collective of cyclists, and called Réseau Vélo Île-de-France (VIF), which provides 750km of uninterrupted tracks, to join the capital by bike, or move through the departments.
Initially called RER-V, this network adapts the axes of public transport to cycling, with 11 lines planned between 2025 and 2030. The collective hopes that the people of Ile-de-France will be able to benefit from safe and continuous tracks, to alleviate the current danger of being a cyclist in the region and especially in the capital. In total, 500 million euros should be released by the region on what is similar to the largest express bicycle network in the world.
Just like the metro, streetcars or RER, each of these tracks has its own color, so that they are easily identifiable and, above all, so that cyclists can find and follow them without too much effort.
