While Paris remains beautiful even under its gray skies, we'd love to see an end to the rain. So, when will the sun return to the capital and the surrounding region? With summer just around the corner, we'd love to see the warm season finally begin, so we can enjoy the terraces and other swimming spots. We take a look at the weather forecast for the next few days.

Whatever the weather, Paris always manages to delight us. Rain, shine, snow or shine, the capital is full of great ideas for outings in all weathers. But the fact remains that the climate in Paris isn't always what you'd dream of. And while it's not unheard of in certain seasons to find the capital under the grey skies it's often known for, the longer it rains, the more we long for the sun.

With so much grey in the air, the question is increasingly being asked: when will it stop raining in Paris? For if there are those comforting spots where we like to take refuge when the weather turns gray, we find ourselves dreaming of terraces and bucolic strolls while watching for the slightest ray of sunshine, in search of the blue of the sky.

So, when is the sun coming back to Paris ? This June, the weather in Paris and the north of France is not looking too good. Between showers, thunderstorms and gusts of wind, the sun is making itself scarce just as summer is fast approaching. According to forecasts from Météo-France, the bad weather is set to continue into the early part of the week, with thunderstorms even in the offing.

Rain and showers early in the week

On Monday and Tuesday, temperatures will fluctuate between 15°C in the morning and 26°C in the afternoon. The skies will remain overcast, with showers forecast, particularly in Paris, Normandy and near the English Channel. On the other hand, clear skies are expected in the south of France, with temperatures reaching 31°C in Marseille. No, we're not leaving Paris to go and hide out in the south! (except perhaps at weekends...).

The sun returns on Wednesday, but only temporarily

From Wednesday onwards, the sun will make an appearance throughout the country, although thunderstorms are expected on the Atlantic coast. Temperatures will range from 14°C in the morning to 31°C in the afternoon. However, a new episode of rain will disrupt the first day of summer on Thursday, affecting the whole country. Temperatures will nevertheless remain stable.

Sunny but unsettled weekend

The weekend looks set to be sunny in most regions, with a few showers possible on Saturday afternoon around the Massif Central and in eastern France. So the question on everyone's lips remains: will summer finally set in for good?

A particularly cool June

Since May 15, only eight days have seen temperatures above seasonal normals. According to a bulletin from Météo-France, temperatures were around 3 degrees below normal on June 11, 12 and 13. In Paris, the first two weeks of June were the coolest since June 2001.

Unusual weather conditions

Last week was marked by a descent of polar air, bringing cool, unsettled weather. A low-pressure system from Greenland settled over the British Isles, pushing the high pressure offshore. Météo-France stresses that although this situation is moderate, it explains the current cool weather.

A feeling of gloom linked to the contrast

The impression of gloom is amplified by a contrast with the last few months of June, which were abnormally warm. In June 2023, the average temperature was +2.60°C above normal, compared with around -1°C this year.

What's next?

The situation could improve from June 20, with the possible return of theAzores anticyclone. This could bring calmer, sunnier weather around June 23. However, June is not expected to be very hot, and temperatures will remain relatively cool for the season.
