In 2024, many events will be turned upside down by the Paris Olympic Games. No concerts or matches at the Stade de France, cancelled summer festivals, and now, the traditional July 14military parade on the Champs-Elysées has been moved! A veritable institution, this procession was to have moved to the east, between Vincennes and Place de la Nation. In the end, the prestigious Avenue Foch in the 16th arrondissement will host the traditional procession, according to Le Parisien, due to"logistical and technical difficulties".
On July 13, Emmanuel Macron announced the change during a speech at the Ministry of the Armed Forces:"We are one year away from the Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games, and next year, the Olympic flame will light up our parade between Vincennes and the Nation". But why this move? According to Le Parisien, the Place de la Concorde will be under construction just before the start of the Games, as the space will be used for additional sports, including skateboarding and breaking. This will be an opportunity for the whole world to see the Olympic flame before the start of the competition, which will be presented to the public.
But while we're used to seeing the military from France and elsewhere crossing the world's most beautiful avenue, this isn't the first time the parade hasn't been held there. It was originally held on theLongchamp racecourse, and it wasn't until 1919, after the First World War, that it was held on the Champs-Elysées. Between 1945 and 1980, it regularly changed location, before finally settling in 1980 in the 8th arrondissement of Paris.
