The start ofEuro 2024 is looking a little bland in France and in the capital, even though the first match of Les Bleushas already taken place, on Monday June 17. Soccer fans are reduced to watching the competition from home or in Parisian bars, for lack of a fan zone or public place to share emotions around the French Team. According to L'Equipe, Paris City Hall prefers to wait until the end of the group phase before considering the idea,"when the serious stuff starts".
That's not the priority, just a month before the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, which are being played at home! While the Euro is due to end on July 14, hopefully with a victory for France on Bastille Day, the opening ceremony for the Olympics will take place on July 26. The dates are close together, and when it comes to security, the city has to make choices, especially as the political situation in the country is tense due to the legislative elections, adding another event to the busy summer calendar for the police.
As a reminder, during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, the capital didn't offer its residents a fan zone either, as the competition took place in winter for the first time. And let's face it, this spring has been anything but sunny, and isn't helping to generate any real excitement at the moment!
