The famous Parisian transformist cabaret Chez Michou announced its closure for "financial reasons" on Monday. On its social networks, the legendary cabaret revealed that "the last performance of the Cabaret and its Michettes" had taken place the previous day.

After 68 years in business, a liquidator will be appointed from July 16, 2024, charged with finding a buyer for this iconic establishment. Catherine Catty-Jacquart, niece of founder Michou (who died in 2020), has expressed concern about the possible reopening in September, pointing out that "bookings are not filling up for July despite the announcement of the Olympic Games", according to lefigaro.fr.

The Covid pandemic, strikes, demonstrations and parking problems, particularly for coaches, all contributed to the downfall of this legendary venue. Chez Michou employed 23 people, including artists, waitstaff, kitchen and front-of-house staff.

Dalida, Sylvie Vartan or Johny Hallyday, they've all graced the stage of Chez Michou, or almost... Despite the transformist shows that made it famous, the 18th arrondissement institution has failed to renew itself and attract a younger audience, unlike Madame Arthur and her hip program of drag shows.

A new chapter begins for Paris's smallest cabaret. At least for the time being...
