The program for Nuit des Musées 2025 at the MAC/VAL in Vitry-sur-Seine:

  • Tableaux vivants - A journey through the hierarchy of genres
    Saturday, May 17, 2025 - 2:00 pm ⤏ 2:30 pm, 3:00 pm ⤏ 3:30 pm

The second part of the Projet artistique et culturel en territoire éducatif (PACTE), dedicated to the hierarchy of genres in the history of art, this 100% EAC tour takes everyone on a unique museum experience.

Portraiture, landscape and still life come to life through the feathers and voices of young visitors. A project carried out with two CM2 classes from the Fernand Buisson school in Montgeron.

In the collection exhibition "The Ideal Genre

  • "I like playing with flowers, don't you?" - Installation by Quentin Derouet
    Saturday, May 17, 2025 - 15:00 ⤏ 23:00

To mark the 20th anniversary of the MAC VAL, the installation J'aime bien jouer avec les fleurs et vous? is presented in the museum's Salon.

This participatory work can be seen as a gesture, an amused ritual or a time for collective play. The public is invited to take hold of a flower, a petal, a stem or a leaf, and "draw" it by smashing it against the walls. In a spirit of joy and playfulness, visitors can transgress the usual museum rules and regulations: marring and desecrating the immaculate walls to create a collective work of art, a large-scale plant graffiti.

  • "C'est ainsi fait" - Sound piece by Anne-James Chaton and Fabien Alea Nicol
    Saturday, May 17, 2025 - 15:00 ⤏ 23:00

To accompany the new exhibition in the "Le genre idéal" collection, MAC VAL has invited author Anne-James Chaton and musician Fabien Alea Nicol to create a poetic and musical audio guide.

On the occasion of the European Museum Night, they conceived a sound piece that prefigures the audioguide to come, exploring the evocative richness of the materials and techniques that make up the works on display, without cutting them off from those in the museum's reserves.

The random or deliberate associations of these very concrete words stop visitors in their tracks and their gaze on singular objects or, conversely, accompany them in their perception of the works and their narratives.

In the exhibition of the "Le genre idéal" collection

  • "Raconter par l'image, éditer la narration" - Artist's book workshop with Pia-Mélissa Laroche
    Saturday, May 17, 2025 - 15:00 ⤏ 16:30

Workshop to approach images as a language and experiment with new forms of storytelling and publishing through drawing, editing and layout.

For adults and children aged 5 and over

    MAC VAL documentation center

    Duration: approx. 1h30

  • Meeting to discuss the "100% EAC" exhibition
    Saturday, May 17, 2025 - 16:30 ⤏ 17:30

With its 100% EAC label, the MAC VAL is shedding new light on three artistic and cultural education projects supervised by renowned artists Johanna Benaïnous, Lucie Douriaud and Florence Poirier-Nkpa.

In the museum spaces, discover the "Galerie de portraits" written by artist Johanna Benaïnous and 3rd graders from Collège La Guinette in Villecresnes, the collective work "Paysage sensible" created with artist Lucie Douriaud, and "Chronique iconographique" by artist Florence Poirier-Nkpa and 2de "Art et design" students from Lycée Adolphe Chérioux in Vitry-sur-Seine, based on prints and still lifes.

  • Visit to the exhibition "Le genre idéal" by Nicolas Surlapierre, director of MAC VAL and the exhibition's co-curators
    Saturday, May 17, 2025 - 18:00 ⤏ 19:30

Visit to the "Le genre idéal" exhibition by MAC VAL director Nicolas Surlapierre and exhibition co-curators Margaut Segui and Anaïs Linares.

In spring 2025, the MAC VAL is planning a tour devoted to the hierarchy of genres, tackling this vast theme through the prism of works from the museum's collection.

In 1667, art historian André Félibien set out the hierarchy of genres in the preface to his "Conférences de l'Académie Royale de peinture et de sculpture". He instructs the precepts that will govern academic painting, and thereby establishes the idea of noble genres and sub-genres, where subject matter takes precedence over technical mastery or craftsmanship. "Le genre idéal" takes a mischievous look at each of the five genres in this hierarchy: history, portraiture, genre scenes, landscape and still life.

  • "Lust for life" - Performance by Rémy Yadan
    Saturday, May 17, 2025 - 20:00 ⤏ 22:45

With Bénédicte Cerutti, Margaux Toqué, Djilali Hammouche, Fabrice Hasovic, Sébastien Peyrucq, Stéphanie Lhorset, Christophe Chêne-Cailleteau, Céline Niary, Aurélien Degrez, Patrica Fonteline, Gladys Mendy, Sophie Forster et Thibault Cerda, Diane et Lélia Regneault, Sylvie Subra, Cécilia Yadan "Lust For Life" is a choreographic creation by Rémy Yadan created especially for the European Museum Night at MAC VAL.

At the crossroads of performance, cinema and theatricality, this immersive installation plunges the audience into the twists and turns of a ghostly, luminous celebration.

The museum vestibule becomes a suspended landscape, an enchanted cabaret, a levitating party, where reminiscences of voices, dances, texts and popular scenes mingle with the memory of the place and the spectral history of the exhibitions.
