For many, June 21 rhymes with the summer solstice. For others, this symbolic date marks the return of the famous and traditional Fête de la musique. Every year at the same time, musicians unite their talents to offer the French a series of free concerts featuring all kinds of music: from rock and jazz to electro, classical, blues, pop, rap and world music.
For an entire day, live music resonates in the streets, as well as in bars and restaurants, parks and gardens, museums, institutions and churches.
Other venues are even more unusual. For lovers of original music, head for the metro! On Wednesday, June 21, 2023, for the 41st Fête de la Musique, FIP radio and RATP are joining forces to launch the first ever Transport Day with Music!
This year, " Fip takes the metro, RATP takes the microphone ". From 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., FIP will transform the often gloomy lives of Paris metro users into a veritable party. For a whole day, the metro will become a concert hall and a radio station, with a host offree events of all kinds.
As part of this new Fête de la musique, passengers will be able to enjoy "surprise" showcases and mini-concerts by well-known artists in selected subway stations. On the menu? Les Musiciens du métro, as well as Keziah Jones & Philippe Cohen Solal, Yael Naim, Ladaniva and Aupinard.
And that's not all, since FIP will also be broadcast live in the metro stations, to accompany passengers on their journey and offer them a pleasant and festive musical moment. Finally, for this exclusive day celebrating music, the floor will be given to metro musicians, drivers and station agents.
This isn't the first time FIP has celebrated music. Last year, the Radio France group's famous radio station took over the sumptuous Arènes de Lutèce to offer free concerts by Metronomy, Bertrand Berlin and Ibeyi. This year, FIP is leaving the 5th arrondissement to immerse itself underground and offer Parisians an unusual Fête de la musique in the metro!
