Event of this Nuit Blanche 2019: the ring road closes to cars and is transformed into a bike path, on the evening of Saturday October 5 to Sunday October 6, 2019. The crazy announcement was made by the Mayor of Paris and promises an unforgettable experience for cyclists and pedestrians alike.

When we say that Nuit Blanche 2019 promises to be crazy, we're not lying! Paris City Hall is closing the ring road to cars (at least in part) to make way for pedestrians and bicycles, in addition to an artistic parade through the streets of the capital starting at 7pm and the nightly 10km race through the museums and monuments of Paris.

Yes, yes, get ready to walk the ring road between Porte de Montreuil and Porte d'Aubervilliers this Saturday, October 5, 2019. Over 1.7 kilometers (of the 40-kilometer ring road) will be transformed into a luminous velodrome, accessible to cyclists (and pedestrians) from Porte de la Villette to Porte de Pantin!

With the support of creative studio 1024 architecture, the ring road will light up to the rhythm of Parisians' bicycles. By registering, you'll be able to light up your bike (or a Vélib') with light kits handed out at Porte de Pantin(register online) and ride for 2 hours on this ephemeral velodrome. A joyful and public event in the image of what Paris wants to offer for the 2024 Olympic Games. The curious can even come and tread the ground, thanks to the secure pedestrian area along the route, just to see Paris from a new angle.

Cyclists are also invited to come along on Saturday, October 5, 2019 from 2pm to the Village Vélo, Place de la Fontaine aux Lions, to take advantage of a self-repair workshop, BICYCODE marking to find a lost or stolen bike, road safety awareness and even bike initiations for children, in partnership with the Fédération Française des Usagers de la Bicyclette.

Anne Hidalgo revealed that she had dreamt of this animation on the day of the defusing of a World War II bomb in February 2019. She reportedly told the Prefect of Police"if we can close the ring road to defuse a bomb, we can close it for Nuit Blanche". The evening is also an opportunity for Paris City Hall to talk about the future of the urban highway: in May 2019, it already indicated that it wanted to green the perif to make it a shared road, but within a reasonable timeframe of 2050.
