As you know, in the run-up to the Opening Ceremony of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, access to certain areas is restricted to ensure the safety of all. A gray zone has been set up from July 18 to 26, so if you're wondering whether the museum or monument you'd like to visit requires a Games Pass, we've got an update.
Games Pass or no Games Pass, that's the question. Visiting Paris and its emblematic monuments and museums can be a real obstacle course. To steer you through the jungle of announcements and save you from finding yourself with your beak in the water, we take a look at your options for visiting, particularly from July 18 to 26, 2024, as the city prepares to host the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games , with great pomp and circumstance.
As a reminder, the Pass Jeux is an exemption that can be requested online from the Préfecture de Police to justify vehicular and pedestrian access in grey zones, or vehicular access only in red zones. Proof of residence, work or reservation in a gray zone is required.
Certain museums and monuments located in the grey zone require a compulsory Games Pass application after booking tickets, from July 18 to 26. This is the case for :
- The Archaeological Crypt, from July 18 to 25. The Crypt is closed on July 26, the day of the ceremony.
- The Museum of Modern Art, from July 18 to 25. The museum is closed on July 26, the day of the ceremony.
- Musée des Arts Décoratifs, from July 18 to 25. The museum is closed on July 26, the day of the ceremony.
- The Musée de l'Homme has decided to close during the Olympic Games, from July 20 to August 13. A Games Pass is required for July 18 and 19.
Some museums remain accessible without a Games Pass, but require a reservation. This is the case for :
- Musée d'Orsay. From July 18 to 24, 2024: reservations are compulsory for everyone, including free visitors and visitors with passes. The museum is closed on July 25 and 26. There will be no nocturne on Thursday evening. In the period leading up to the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games, the museum is accessible without a digital pass (QR Code). Access to the museum entrance is via rue de Lille only.
- The Louvre Museum. From July 1 to September 8, 2024, reservations are compulsory for all visitors, including free visitors and cardholders. The Musée du Louvre remains open during the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, except on July 25 and 26. The late-night opening on Wednesday, July 24 is exceptionally cancelled. From July 18 to 24, access to the museum will be via the Cour Carrée only (entrance at the corner of rue de Rivoli and rue Marengo). The nearest metro station is "Louvre Rivoli". During this period, presentation ofa valid identity document is compulsory. Please be sure to indicate the first and last name of the ticket holder when booking.
- The Eiffel Tower has already put its tickets on sale online, so you can plan ahead. All you need to do to gain access to the monument is present your ticket. Name on ticket and identity card are also required.
Museums closed :
Note that museums in the red zone are still accessible on foot, but require a Games Pass for vehicles that have obtained an exemption. These include the Petit Palais, the Palais Galliera and the Maison de Balzac. A good number of museums close on the day of the Olympic Games Opening Ceremony, such as the Musée du Quai Branly on July 25 and 26. The museum's restaurants, however, remain open.
