This Parisian summer will be more sporting than cultural: the Paris 2024 Olympic Games are enlivening the four corners of the capital and transforming city squares and venues into sports fields, sometimes to the detriment of other neighborhood institutions.
The Place de la Concorde, for example, became an urban sports spot, hosting 3x3 basketball and skateboarding events. However, the Jeu de Paume, an art center dedicated to photography located on the edge of the square, had to close its doors for the summer season, to avoid the inconvenience caused by these Olympic events.

Located on the Place du Trocadéro, the Musée de l'Homme has decided to follow the example of its sister museum. The science museum announced on July 1 that it would be closed entirely from July 20 to August 13, 2024, due to events linked to the Olympic Games. In a message published on its website, the museum states: " Due to the 2024 Olympic Games, the Musée de l'Homme will be closed from Saturday July 20 to Tuesday August 13, 2024 inclusive. Please note: to access the museum on July 18 and 19, 2024, visitors will need a digital "Pass jeux" pass following the activation of the security perimeter (grey zone) for the Olympic Games opening ceremony. This step must be anticipated as soon as possible".
The Trocadero, a popular tourist attraction with its breathtaking view of the Eiffel Tower, is also scheduled to host a number of sporting events during the Olympic Games. The square is to be redeveloped to allow the public to watch the triathlon and para-triathlon competitions , road cycling, athletics (marathon and 20 km walk) and swimming (10 km open water).
The Cité de l'Architecture et du Patrimoine and the Musée National de la Marine, also located on the Place du Trocadéro, remain open for the time being. Both museums have announced that they will only be closed for a few days during the Olympic period, around July 26, the date of the opening ceremony. Please note, however, that to gain access to these museums during the Games, a pass will be required.
