Paris 2024 Paralympic Games: transport, traffic, everything you need to know to avoid the hassle

Whether you're planning to travel by car, on foot, by metro, by train, by bike or even in a flying cab, the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games are likely to impact you if you're traveling in the Paris region. Whether you're on vacation or will be working during the competition, it's best to find out what's going on beforehand, so as to anticipate any potential problems! In this guide, you'll find all the latest news on transport, both individual and public, and the adaptations the city has put in place to avoid chaos.

The changes won't last just a month and weeks, as some stations close to the Olympic venues, such as Concorde and Tuileries, willclose from June until September. It will then be necessary to find alternative ways of getting around, whether by metro or car, as many areas will be closed to motorized vehicles, in an extended perimeter around the venues, from 2h30 before the start of the first event until 1h after the last.

On the Paris ring road and along a hundred or so kilometers around the capital, reserved Olympic lanes are being set up, to enable athletes to arrive on time, and emergency services to circulate easily. For motorists, however, it will most certainly be necessary to be patient and leave earlier, with one lane less. Finally, for cyclists, each Olympic venue will be accessible via a protected cycle route, and 3,000 new Vélib' bikes will be in operation by the summer.

With almost 500,000 spectators and comm uters expected to be travelling at the same time each day, RATP and Île-de-France Mobilités are inviting people to telecommute or postpone their journeys to avoid overloading the network.

Good to know: remember to buy your transport tickets in advance, or even now, to avoid price increases during the competition and long queues of tourists!
