Transport galleys in the Ile-de-France region began long before the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Since May already, the first metro stations have been closed, and by July 26, many more will follow. But the modified transport plan also affects the SNCF and Transilien lines, with a reduced number of trains compared to a normal summer, both before and after the Games.
From July 8 to 21 and August 12 to 25, 2024, there will be fewer off-peak trains (except on lines K and U) and RERs on lines C, D and E, with up to 15% of services cancelled, the worst affected being line J and RERs C and D. Except that at this time of year, users are still very numerous, far from being on vacation, and are making heavy use of public transport in the Paris region, at the risk of seeing trains even more crowded than usual.
According to Le Parisien, the SNCF explains these cancellations by the"need to stagger vacations in order to provide extra services for the Olympic Games", so that trains can be as plentiful as usual during the competition period and serve the various Olympic sites in the départements. A lack of foresight, according to many players in the Paris region's transport sector, which is not the case at RATP, which has no plans to cut back this summer.
