If you're looking to travel during the Paris Olympics this summer, forget July 26, 2024. On the day of the opening ceremony, it's going to be difficult to get around, by car, metro, but also by plane, especially during the evening! On March 5, 2024, Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin announced the closure of airspace within a 150-kilometer radius of the capital during the event. This means that no aircraft will be flying into the area from the region's airports that evening.
"It's quite historic that we're stopping the airports altogether", he added, while helicopters and drones are scheduled to fly over the capital and the ceremony, to keep snipers hovering. This will enable them to"follow any complicated teams or places where security teams have doubts" and ensure the security of the event.
With the ceremony starting at 7:30pm, all air traffic will be grounded from 7pm to midnight at all airports in the area: Roissy-Charles-de-Gaulle, Orly, Le Bourget and Beauvais. These airports will therefore be closed, and no flights will be able to operate, even for heads of state due to visit the capital, who will have to"arrive beyond this zone or upstream".
