As the hours tick by, the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games draws ever closer. This Wednesday, August 28, 2024, many eyes will be on the capital and this highly anticipated opening ceremony. For the occasion, Paris is betting on originality by staging a ceremony on the Place de la Concorde. As with the Paris Olympic Games, the Paralympic opening ceremony will not be held in a stadium.
In concrete terms, the evening will begin with a parade of para-athletes from 168 countries and the arrival of the flame on the Champs-Élysées, where 15,000 spectators are expected. This will be followed by the opening ceremony of the Paris Paralympic Games on the Place de la Concorde. The ceremony is scheduled to end at around 11:15 p.m. and will be attended by 35,000 ticketed spectators.
" This ceremony is intended to be very ambitious in order to showcase Paralympic athletes in the most beautiful of ways," said Tony Estanguet, President of Paris 2024, at a press conference on Tuesday. " The opening ceremony is going to be extraordinary," said Andrew Parsons, President of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC). " It's like the city embracing the Paralympic Games. It's going to be a traditional ceremony in a non-traditional venue. I've been told there's going to be a surprise, but I want it to remain a surprise for everyone! " he added.
The Patrouille de France will also be on the program for this opening ceremony. On August 27, the Préfecture de police de Paris issued a press release announcing " a flyover performed by the Patrouille de France as part of the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games ".
Specifically, 9 Alphajet-type aircraft of the Patrouille de France will be authorized to fly over Paris on August 28. The Patrouille de France is scheduled to take to the skies over Place de la Concorde between 8 and 8:30 p.m., " following a west-east axis ". And this time, the weather shouldn't interfere with the festivities. Météo France is predicting bright, sunny skies this Wednesday evening.
Now all that remains to be seen is what the Patrouille de France has in store for us during this aerial flight. See you this Wednesday to find out!
