The Paralympic Games kick off this Wednesday, August 28, 2024, with an opening ceremony that promises to be spectacular. As tradition dictates, the sporting delegations will parade in a particular order.

After a short break to recover from our Olympic emotions, here we are, ready to dive back into the crazy world of sport! The Paris 2024 Paralympic Games kick off this Wednesday, August 28, 2024, with an opening ceremony orchestrated by Thomas Jolly, to be discovered at the Concorde. Dancing, singing, symbols, shows: once again, the artistic director promises plenty of surprises...

The opening ceremony is also an opportunity to meet the athletes from all over the world who will be thrilling us over the next twelve days.

All in all, on Wednesday evening, we'll be seeing 184 delegations: 4,400 Paralympic athletes taking part in the parade down the Champs-Elysées to the stadium on the Place de la Concorde.

But in what order will the delegations appear? As with the Olympic Games , and to ensure equality between the participating nations, the delegations parade in alphabetical order (following the spelling of the names as they are written in the language of the host country). At these Paris 2024 Games, it's Afghanistan that opens the ball.

The French delegation brings up the rear: the 237 athletes are led by flag bearers Alexis Hanquinquant (para-triathlon) and Nantenin Keita (para-athletics). France comes last in its capacity as host of these Games, as it did for the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games last July. Similarly, Australia and the United States come just before France, despite their alphabetical order, as these two countries are the next hosts of the Summer Games.

It should be noted that some delegations are not present at the ceremony: this is notably the case for Russian and Belarusian athletes competing under the neutral banner, who have not been invited to take part in the event.
