More than 200 sporting delegations are expected on the Seine this Friday, July 26, 2024, for the launch of the Paris Olympic Games. Here's the order in which the athletes will parade during this opening ceremony.

This summer, the 33rd Summer Olympics are being held in Paris. Since 1896, this major international event has undergone considerable development and codification. Sports, number of athletes, participating countries, organization of events: each element is planned in detail, and complies with more or less strict rules.

The opening ceremony of the Games is no exception: this great evening of spectacle also follows precise rituals detailed by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). For example, after the raising of the Olympic flag, it is customary to release several doves, symbols of peace between the participating nations and of the Olympic truce.

During the opening ceremony of the Games, many artists are invited to sing and dance... But the real stars of the evening are, of course, the athletes. Grouped into delegations, they parade one after the other, in a very particular order.

At the head of the queue are the Greek athletes , in homage to the ancient Games that gave birth to the event, followed by the refugee delegation. The rest of the countries march in alphabetical order (following the spelling of the host country - in this case French), and the host country closes the march. Just before the French delegation, the United States, the next hosts of the Games, will parade past.

A total of 10,500 athletes are expected to take part, forming 205 delegations. These athletes are expected to parade on boats along the Seine on Friday, July 26, 2024.
