This year, the start of the new school year falls right in the middle of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games! For the occasion, numerous arrangements are being put in place in the Île-de-France region, which is likely to impact many families and students.

While there had been talk for a while of postponing the start of the new school year, it will finally take place as planned on September 2 , 2024, right in the middle of the Paralympic Games! The competition takes place from August 28 to September 8 in the capital and in a few neighboring départements where Paralympic venues are located, notably Seine-Saint-Denis. And there's plenty to worry about when it comes to public transport, as everyone will have gone back to work, unlike the Olympic Games in the middle of the school vacations.

To ensure the best possible reception conditions for students from September 2 to 7, 131 schools in the Paris region have adjusted their back-to-school week. Around the competition sites, safety perimeters are still in force, with red and blue zones restricting car access. Parents will therefore have to make their own arrangements for dropping off their children.

While the timetable is the same as usual for pupils, staff are asked to anticipate their arrival, which must take place before 8 a.m., to"avoid overloading public transport", which is likely to be saturated at peak times, whether by bus, metro or streetcar. The Academy nevertheless recommends that families"avoid travelling between 8 and 10 a.m.", or stagger their journeys to avoid overloading the network at the same time.

Pupils at three schools have had their back-to-school experience turned upside down, particularly in Saint-Denis and Clichy-sous-Bois, as they have had to move. For a few days, however, they will be able to take advantage of museum visits and attend Paralympic events, for a back-to-school experience that's far from ordinary! In the Yvelines region, due to a traffic ban on the RD10 and RD7 in the Versailles - Saint Cyr direction, around twenty schools will have to let their pupils leave early, between 3 and 4 pm.

Back to normal as of September 9!
