The Paris 2024 Olympic Games have taken up the challenge of overturning the codes of this major sporting event. An off-stadium opening ceremony, a fuel-free Olympic cauldron, an Olympic event open to amateur athletes, medals set with a piece of the Eiffel Tower... the least we can say is that the City of Light will have succeeded in breathing new life into the Olympics. After a two-week break, the party resumes this time with the Paralympic Games, held at the same iconic venues.
It's a chance to cheer on the athletes of different nations, while witnessing spectacular performances in events adapted to different disabilities. For fans ofweightlifting, para-powerlifting is a must. We look forward to seeing you atArena Porte de La Chapelle from September 4 to 8, 2024.
How does the Powerlifting test work?
This is a bench press. The athlete first selects his or her weight before unhooking the bar from the supports. Then, when the referee gives the star, he must lower the bar to his chest before pausing. Then lift the bar at arm's length, arms outstretched, elbows locked. When the referee calls "Rack", the competitor rests the bar. Each athlete has three attempts, which are subject to validation by a panel of three referees. Athletes are then separated according to who has lifted the heaviest bar. The sport is contested according to weight rather than handicap categories.
