Paris metros will no longer stop in the event of passenger discomfort, and will be quicker to restart following news of a suspicious package. Following her appearance on the set of BFM Business, Valérie Pécresse announced significant changes in the context of transport in the Paris region, to be fully ready in the run-up to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The new measures should be in place by next June.

With the Paris 2024 Olympic Games in her sights, the president of the Île-de-France region, Valérie Pécresse, announced significant changes in the area of Ile-de-France transport, particularly in the Paris metro, in an interview with BFM Business this Tuesday, February 27, 2024.

In a move designed to draw inspiration from international best practice, Pécresse stressed the importance of aligning herself with exemplary cities such as Tokyo or London. She revealed several upcoming initiatives to improve the efficiency and safety of the metro network.

One of the main changes concerns the management of passenger discomfort. Contrary to current practice, which involves stopping the train completely in the event of discomfort, Valérie Pécresse has announced the adoption of a new protocol for dealing with long delays. Henceforth, trains will no longer be stopped in the event of illness, but a "Samu" protocol will be put in place for more effective and rapid intervention.

Similarly, to optimize the management of suspicious packages and avoid major disruptions to traffic, measures inspired by other countries will be implemented. Dog squads will be deployed to quickly detect suspicious packages, while the use ofartificial intelligence will enable them to be spotted, thus reducing train downtime.

These initiatives, which are due to come into effect in June, are designed to modernize and optimize the Paris region's public transport network, while ensuring the safety and comfort of passengers. With these changes, Valérie Pécresse hopes to meet users' expectations and improve the overall transport experience in Île-de-France.
