Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines is among the key zones for the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The festivities will be spread over thirteen days of events, organized in four different locations, all with a large fan zone in the Ile de Loisirs. We tell you all about the transport arrangements in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines during the Olympic Games, and how you can get around.

Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, a key zone for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, is preparing to host five major Olympic events spread over four separate venues. The Colline d'Élancourt will be the scene of mountain biking competitions, while the Vélodrome National will host track cycling and para-cycling events. The BMX Stadium promises thrills and spills with BMX competitions, and the Golf National de Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines will be transformed into a demanding course for Olympic golfers.

For this major event, Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines is putting in place an ingenious transport system to facilitate access to the various sites and ensure a seamless experience for spectators and participants alike. Special shuttles and the innovative Urbanloop system will be at the heart of this scheme. This public transport network will facilitate access to the fan zone, located one kilometer from the Vélodrome national de Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, which will welcome 5,000 visitors every day. 6 capsules will travel at 50 km/h on a two-kilometer circuit, with two stops planned along the way. During the competitions, the system should have the capacity to transport 240 people per hour in each direction. And the good news is that Urbanloop is free.

A vast network of cycle paths is being set up to complement the transport network. The departmental Olympic committee has announced the creation of a 100-kilometer network of bike paths, linking the Olympic venues to each other and starting from the Montigny-le-Bretonneux/SQY train station. You can easily rent a bike from Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines station. Don't forget to make a reservation. Scooters are also freely available. This initiative reinforces the region's commitment to sustainable mobility and accessibility. Encouraging the use of bicycles and public transport is part of an eco-responsible approach, in line with the values of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

With over 350,000 spectators expected to attend the Games, a specific transport plan has been drawn up. Regular transport lines will be maintained. The SQY/Montigny station, the central access point to the Olympic venues, is currently undergoing a facelift to handle the large flow of passengers, with new-generation trains, longer platforms and additional entrances. The station is served by Transilien line N trains (Paris-Montparnasse network), Transilien line U trains( La Défense - La Verrière line), RER line C trains and TER Centre-Val de Loire trains.

While access to the Vélodrome National and the BMX Stadium will be easy by foot, bike or scooter from the SQY train station, the Golf National and Colline d'Etancourt mountain bike venues will require special arrangements, similar to those successfully put in place in 2018 for the Ryder Cup. A temporary bus station is planned on avenue du Centre, south of the SQY/Montigny train station, with a fleet of shuttle buses to transport spectators to the various Olympic venues.

And by car?

If you choose to travel by car, please note that a number of restrictions will be in place. Firstly, you'll need to avoid driving on the Olympic lanes on the A12 between Rocquencourt and Montigny-le-Bretonneux, and on the A13 between Saint-Cloud and Le Chesnay-Rocquencourt, from July 15 to August 13 and again from August 22 to September 11, on pain of a €135 fine.

Some roads, such as départementale 10, will be completely closed. From July 26 to August 11, traffic will be banned on the route linking Saint-Cyr-l'École to Versailles and passing in front of La Lanterne.

More localized restrictions and bans will also be in place around the five Olympic venues in the Yvelines region: the Château de Versailles, the hill at Élancourt, the Golf national, the BMX stadium and the Vélodrome national. In addition to traffic, parking will also be affected.

To plan your visit to Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines during the Olympic and Paralympic Games, bear in mind that transport and roads will be very busy. It's a good idea to plan your journeys in advance. The French Ministry of Transport offers an interactive map to help you visualize the impact on roads and public transport. Alternatives, such as cycling or walking, will certainly be preferred in the vicinity of the Olympic venues.
