From July 26 to August 11, 2024, Paris becomes the host city of the Olympic Games: so to host an event of this magnitude, restrictions have been put in place, including for cyclists.

From July 17 until the night of July 27, around 40 Vélib' stations will be temporarily closed, due to the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, scheduled for Friday July 26, along the Seine. The closure of these self-service bicycle stations follows a request from the Paris Police Prefecture and concerns a total of 36 stations located in the 1st, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 13th, 15th and 16th arrondissements of Paris.

After applying traffic restrictions for cars and imposing passes in certain high-pressure areas - notably the neighborhoods near the Olympic Village in Saint-Denis and around the Olympic venues - new restrictions now apply to self-service bike hire.
