Valérie Pécresse, President of the Île-de-France Regional Council, had indicated that the people of the Ile-de-France region would not have to pay the additional costs incurred by the Paris 2024 Olympic Games on public transport. The network, which is likely to be heavily saturated for the duration of the competition, will see its fares increase for a few weeks, with a near doubling of the fare, from July 20 to September 8, 2024, for the millions of visitors. Single metro tickets will rise from €2.10 to €4, and a book of ten tickets from €16.90 to €32!
Following the announcement of this special fare, Paris City Hall asked Valérie Pécresse to reverse her decision, saying that the measure"is an additional blow to Parisians and Franciliens" financially, but also to Paris 2024 volunteers. Ile-de-France residents who do not have a Navigo or Liberté + pass and will still be traveling during this period are therefore invited to buy their usual tickets before July 20, 2024 to avoid this new ephemeral pricing.
Tourists will have to opt for a Paris 2024 pass, which will enable them to travel throughout the region, for the sum of 16 euros per day and 70 euros per week, i.e. almost the price of a monthly Navigo pass. A far cry from the free public transport originally envisaged for the Games...
