Will we have to consider swimming across the Seine from the left bank to the right bank during the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games on July 26? Only five Paris bridges, including one reserved for pedestrians, will be open to traffic: part of the Pont d'Iéna, the Pont des Invalides, the Pont Notre-Dame, the Pont de Sully and the Léopold-Sédar-Senghor pedestrian footbridge. Most of the bridges between the Pont d'Iéna and the Pont d'Austerlitz will therefore be closed by July 1, 2024!
According to Laurent Nuñez, Prefect of Police of Paris, the"great galley" will begin at the beginning of July, in preparation for the opening ceremony. This means traffic jams of several kilometers in the capital, and extra meters on foot for pedestrians, who will have to use other bridges for at least a month. On the day of the opening ceremony, all Paris bridges will be closed, so you'll need to take the metro if it's not too crowded.
