With Tempête, filmmaker Christian Duguay(Jappeloup, Un Sac de Billes, Belle et Sébastien) offers a beautiful equestrian film for the whole family. To be (re)discovered this Saturday, September 16, at 9:10pm on Canal+.
The film follows the family of Zoé, owner of an equestrian estate, a haras, where everyone has their place: the father(Pio Marmaï), a jockey, the mother(Mélanie Laurent), a veterinarian, and the dozen or so employees. But when an accident shatters Zoé's dreams, the whole stud is turned upside down, and a long road must follow for the young girl to achieve resilience.
Punctuated by the father's races, the film spans almost 20 years. We see the young girl grow, blossom and dream, before a brutal accident. Tempête is a beautiful tale of initiation. By taking place over a long period of time, it allows us to become very attached to the characters. And it's a wise choice to bring in the disruptive element fairly late in the story.
As well as a family drama, Christian Dugay's film is also about sport, with all that the genre implies: surpassing oneself, effort and hard work that pays off. The idea that you can achieve anything through hard work is prevalent in the film, which proves to be very feel-good.
A great story, good actors and magnificent natural scenery - what more could you want for a great family cinema experience?
