It is a unique episode that proposes the new chapter of The Last of Us. For this time, we go back in time and we discoverEllie's past, before she met Joel. A shocking episode available on Amazon Prime Video since this Monday, February 27.
The previous episode ended on a tragic note, the fall of Joel, stabbed and on the verge of death. This one starts where the previous one left off and puts Ellie in front of a choice: give up or hang on and continue. A decision similar to the one she had to make a few months before, when she discovered her immunity.
From then on, the whole episode is a long flashback detailing Ellie's friendship with Riley, a girl from her ZQ, who left to join the Fireflies, but before her final departure, the girls have one last evening together. These moments of innocence are heartbreaking. For one night, Ellie and Riley discover the life that humans had before the apocalypse, and are delighted by things as simple as an escalator or a luminous storefront.
We understood it for several episodes already, the direction and the scenario of The Last of Us are excellent, and once again, deliver us an unbearable suspense. We understand it quickly enough, this episode will end badly, but we don't know when, nor how this evil will happen. A beautiful lesson of suspense almost Hitchcockian.
Fortunately, we have all the week to swallow our tears and to recover from this intense emotion. See you next Monday for the eighth and penultimate episode!
