Director Nuri Bilge Ceylan 's Les Herbes Sèches (Dry Grass) was presented in official competition at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival. Starring Deniz Celiloglu, Merve Dizdar and Musab Ekici, the film is due to hit cinemas on July 12.
In Les Herbes Sèches, Samet, a young teacher played by Deniz Celiloglu, finds himself in a remote Anatolian village. He has been hoping for a transfer to Istanbul for several years, but a series of events jeopardizes his hopes. It is during this difficult period that he meets Nuray, a young teacher played by Merve Dizdar.
Director Nuri Bilge Ceylan is known for his contemplative style and profound films that tackle social and existential themes. Les Herbes Sèches is no exception, offering an intense and captivating narrative. Merve Dizdar, winner of the Prix d'Interprétation Féminine, plays a captivating and moving role. As Nuray, a leftist activist who lost her right leg in an explosion, she manages to convey a profound intensity and unshakeable humanity. Although the male characters dominate the story, it was Dizdar's performance that stood out and moved the audience. Her performance not only lit up the screen, but also contributed to a broader and more nuanced representation of disabled people in cinema.
