Wes Anderson wastes no time! He's used to leaving between two and four years between the release of each of his films. Now, however, the filmmaker is unveiling four new works, even though his latest, Asteroid City, is still in cinemas. Join us on September 27 to discover The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar, a 37-minute short film posted on Netflix. The film is an adaptation of The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar and Six More, by Roald Dahl(Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Matilda, The BGG). And since Netflix acquired the Roald Dahl Story Company in 2021, all its adaptations are to be produced under the platform's aegis.
In this new film, Wes Anderson, adept at large castings, does not disappoint. The cast includes Benedict Cumberbatch, Ben Kingsley, Ralph Fiennes and Dev Patel. The film premiered at the Venice Film Festival.
But that's not all! Because Henry Sugar doesn't arrive alone: on September 28, 29 and 30, a new short film by Wes Anderson, again based on Roald Dahl, arrives each day: The Swan, Claude's Dog and Venom. We're spoiled!
Henry Sugar is a wealthy man with a penchant for gambling. One day, he reads a doctor's report describing a strange patient from India, able to see despite the fact that his eyes are sewn shut. The man has since developed strange abilities to perform an incredibly lucrative act in a circus. Henry discovers the method by which the doctors "took away" the man's sight. Henry decides to do the same, and finally gives himself the power to see despite his stitched-up eyes. Using his powers, Henry undergoes a series of charades designed to win him a huge sum of money.
