This is definitely his year! Raphaël Quenard has seen his popularity soar in 2023, and the actor is multiplying his projects: Je verrai toujours vos visages, Sur la Branche, Vincent doit Mourir, Yannick (currently in cinemas) and Cash, a comedy released on Netflix on July 6.
Directed by Jérémie Rozan, this film surprises from start to finish. You wouldn't think you'd see a film this likable dumped in near-anonymity on Netflix, without much promotion, which is why we're telling you about it nearly a month after its release. Cash tells the story of Daniel Sauveur (Raphaël Quenard), who can't stand the Breuil family's domination of the town of Chartes, where he's always lived. To take revenge for their success,he manages to get a job in the family factory and convinces his colleagues to steal part of the stock, with hundreds of thousands of euros at stake .
It's obviously not the film of the year, but while often very funny, Cash is quite enjoyable to watch. First and foremost, thanks to its cast. Igor Gotesman (Family Business) and Agathe Rousselle (Titane) prove their talent once again, but as in every one of his appearances, it's obviously Raphaël Quenard who carries the film. His bonhomie, his cheekiness, and his very particular style of acting make him one of the must-see actors of 2023. The film is worth seeing for its score alone.
But that's not all: Cash may be a small French comedy shot in the countryside, but the references to the films of Martin Scorsese, and in particular Goodfellas, are obvious! And it's great to see so much ambition in such a project. Above all, it's a pleasure to see a film with so little moralizing, where most of the characters are small-time hoodlums who aren't always very clever, and where the thieves win. In short, Cash is a real pleasure to discover.
