On August 29, 2024, Netflix unveils KAOS, a British original series that promises to revisit Greek mythology from a perspective as offbeat as it is original. Created by Charlie Covell(The End of the F***ing World), the series blends comedy, fantasy and drama, plunging the gods of Olympus into an existential crisis with potentially cataclysmic consequences. Featuring a prestigious cast, including Jeff Goldblum as Zeus, Janet McTeer as Hera and Nabhaan Rizwan as Dionysus, KAOS offers a bold retelling of ancient myths, in which immortals prove to be as vulnerable as the mortals they are supposed to govern.
In KAOS, Zeus(Jeff Goldblum) has reigned for millennia as king of the gods, but everything changes when he wakes up one morning to discover a wrinkle on his forehead. This sign of aging plunges Zeus into a spiral of paranoia and neurosis, causing him to see threats to his power everywhere. Meanwhile, his brother Hades, guardian of the Underworld, gradually loses control of his kingdom, overwhelmed by the souls of the dead, who begin to grow impatient.
Hera (Janet McTeer), queen of the gods and wife of Zeus, finds herself forced to act to preserve her freedom and authority in the face of her husband's growing paranoia. Meanwhile, Zeus' rebellious son Dionysus (Nabhaan Rizwan) continues to defy his father, leading a hedonistic existence that threatens to blow everything out of proportion. Back on Earth, humans are beginning to realize that the gods they worship are no longer as powerful or benevolent as they once were.
Among these mortals, a motley crew consisting of Riddy (Aurora Perrineau), Orpheus (Killian Scott), Caneus (Misia Butler) and Ari (Leila Farzad), find themselves bound by fate in a rebellion against Zeus and the other deities. Together, they could well be the ones to bring about the downfall of the gods and the end of their eternal reign. As for Poseidon (Cliff Curtis), god of seas and storms, he seems more concerned with the size of his yacht than with the upheavals underway, leaving mortals to fend for themselves in the face of divine wrath.
KAOS is aimed at fans of fantasy series and dark comedies, who appreciate modern reinterpretations of classic myths. Fans of series such as American Gods or Good Omens will find a plot rich in humor, mythological references and reflections on power, immortality and decadence. What sets KAOS apart is its irreverent, offbeat approach to Greek mythology, where the gods appear as dysfunctional and vulnerable as humans. With meticulous direction and an exceptional cast, KAOS promises to be a series as entertaining as it is profound, blending cosmic drama with the personal intrigues of the deities.
KAOS, available on Netflix from August 29, 2024, is a series that will make you rediscover the gods of Olympus in a new light, between crises of power, neuroses and comedy. Thanks to an ingenious script and an all-star cast, this British series promises to be a must-see this year for all fans of fantasy anddark humor. Immerse yourself in the tumultuous world of KAOS, where not even the gods are safe from the chaos they themselves have created.
