Irish director Lorcan Finnegan, whose second feature Vivarium starring Imogen Poots and Jesse Eisenberg was selected for Critics' Week in 2019, presents his new film at Cannes 2024, this time in Official Selection, in the Midnight Screening.
Entitled The Surfer, it stars Nicolas Cage in the lead role, alongside Julian McMahon and Nicholas Cassim. Shot in Australia, the film finds a man (Nicolas Cage) returning to his seaside hometown. He is humiliated in front of his son by a gang of local surfers who claim absolute ownership of his childhood beach. Wounded, he decides to stay on the beach, declaring war on those who control the bay.
"Nicolas Cage will be there, and we're delighted to welcome him," explained Thierry Frémaux, General Delegate of the Cannes Film Festival, when announcing the film's selection for the midnight screening at the press conference on April 11. More information to come in the coming weeks!
