Biopics about musical artists continue to seduce moviegoers. After"I'm Not There","La Môme","Ray","Walk the Line","Elvis","Rocketman","Judy" or more recently"Bob Marley: One Love","Back to Black" or"Monsieur Aznavour", get ready to discover " Michael " on the big screen.
Dedicated to the immense and inescapable Michael Jackson, this film looks back on the incredible life of the man everyone called"The King of Pop". It will take us back in time to his early days with the Jackson 5, before rediscovering his planetary success as a solo artist. The film will also look back at the various controversies and accusations that have surrounded the singer's life. At least, that's what director Antoine Fuqua said last August on"Good Morning America". It remains to be seen how these sensitive subjects will be tackled.
Directed by Antoine Fuqua ("Training Day","Equalizer","Le Roi Arthur") and produced by Graham King ("Dark Shadows","Bohemian Rhapsody"), " Michael " is due to hit U.S. cinemas in April 2025.
But who was chosen to play the incomparable Michael Jackson? The film team settled on Jaafar Jackson, the artist's nephew, whose resemblance is sometimes striking. Born in 1996, he is the son of Jermaine Jackson, who was also a member of the Jackson 5. A first image of Jaafar Jackson as Michael Jackson was unveiled by distributor Lionsgate last February.
The " Michael " film will also feature Academy Award nominees Colman Domingo (as Joe Jackson) and Nia Long (as Katherine Jackson). They will play the superstar's parents.
Michael Jackson died on June 25, 2009 at the age of 50. Considered one of music's greatest stars, he was responsible for many worldwide hits, including " Billie Jean ", " Beat it ", " Thriller ", " Black or White ", " The Way You Make Me Feel ", " You Are Not Alone ", " Remember The Time ", " Earth Song " and " Rock With You ".
