Released in October 2015, Le Labyrinthe: La Terre brûlée (Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials in the original version) is the direct sequel to the first Le Labyrinthe film, based on the series of novels by James Dashner. Directed by Wes Ball, this second installment expands the saga's universe by plunging Thomas (Dylan O'Brien) and the other Blocards into a post-apocalyptic world, far more dangerous and unpredictable than the maze they escaped from. The film, a blend of action, adventure and science fiction, will be available on Prime Video from October 20, 2024.
After escaping from the labyrinth, Thomas (Dylan O'Brien) and his fellow Blocards discover that the world outside is even more terrifying. The globe has been ravaged by an apocalyptic catastrophe, and chaos reigns supreme. The group comes face to face with WICKED, the mysterious organization that imprisoned and manipulated them in the labyrinth. Now they must face a world without rules, where Scorched Earth - a vast expanse of desert dotted with ruined cities - is populated by melts, humans infected by a devastating virus called La Braise, transforming them into violent, dangerous creatures.
Thomas and the Blocards embark on a desperate journey across this desolate landscape to find answers and possible freedom. The group meets Brenda (Rosa Salazar) and Jorge (Giancarlo Esposito), two survivors who help them navigate this new terrain of danger, while Teresa (Kaya Scodelario) finds herself torn between her friendship with Thomas and her loyalty to WICKED.
As Thomas discovers WICKED's true intentions, he must choose whether to trust the new allies he meets in this scorched Earth, or face this organization of seemingly limitless powers alone.
The Labyrinth: Scorched Earth is aimed at fans of dystopian science fiction andpost-apocalyptic adventures. This film will delight those who have followed the first part of the Labyrinth saga, while offering new challenges and higher stakes. If you've enjoyed franchises like Hunger Games or Divergent, you'll be captivated by the intense action and existential questions raised by Scorched Earth, where survival and alliances are more crucial than ever.
The originality of this second installment lies in the expansion of the universe: instead of the oppressive confinement of the labyrinth, Blocards are plunged into an open, chaotic and brutal world. Scorched Earth provides a visually impressive backdrop, with ruined cities, desolate deserts and terrifying creatures, creating an atmosphere where hope seems as scorched as the earth itself. The film also focuses more on the psychology of the characters, notably Thomas and Teresa, who find themselves increasingly at odds over how to confront WICKED.
Available on Prime Video from October 20, 2024, The Labyrinth: Scorched Earth is a thrillingsci-fi film where the Blocards must survive in a ravaged world while trying to foil WICKED's plans. With spectacular action scenes, a fascinating post-apocalyptic universe and intense performances by Dylan O'Brien and Kaya Scodelario, this film is a must-see for fans of the saga and for those who enjoy tales where survival and resistance against tyrannical authority are at the heart of the plot.
