News Star Wars fans could have done without... Respawn Entertainment and Electronic Arts have announced on social networks that they have postponed the release of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, the long-awaited sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. Originally scheduled for release on March 17, 2023, the game will take you on a journey to a galaxy far, far away, on April 28, 2023, as you discover the new adventures of Cal Ketsis on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series. In the meantime, let's take a look at the official story trailer!
"Darkness closes in as Cal Kestis searches for a safe haven beyond the Empire's reach. Follow Cal and his crew in their desperate fight, as the galaxy plunges deeper into darkness".
Officially, as Electronic Arts explains, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor takes place five years after the events of the first installment. It follows Cal Ketsis as he tries to stay one step ahead of the Empire, which is relentlessly hunting him down. But the young man is beginning to feel the burden of being one of the last living Jedi in the galaxy. A game in which our hero will also meet a whole host of characters, with whom he'll form alliances.
Gameplay-wise, the game will offer dynamic combat in an original and innovative way, while learning new techniques and skills, and thus developing his bond with the Force. "For Jedi: Survivor, we're working closely with Lucasfilm Games to continue the legacy of Jedi: Fallen Order," explains Stig Asmussen, Game Director at Respawn. He continues:"We're using cutting-edge technology to create more dynamic Jedi battles and cinematics, to develop Cal's story as he grows up and survives this dark period".
Our review of Star Wars Jedi Survivor:
Did you like Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order? Then you'll love its sequel, Survivor, available since April 28! In any case, we loved it! And for several reasons: first of all, graphically speaking, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is a real success, whether you play in performance mode or resolution mode (we chose the latter). Ray-tracing makes for smoother environments. It's beautiful and well-made, just the way we like it!
As for the story, there's more to it than in the first installment. Deeper and darker, too... The dialogue is particularly well-written, as are the various characters who cross our hero's path, whether newcomers or not. And of course, a plot twist that we more or less saw coming, but which still manages to surprise.
Gameplay-wise, it doesn't change too much from the first installment, taking up what made the game so enjoyable, while adding one or two new features, such as particularly enjoyable new Force powers (to be discovered at the end of the game), as well as the possibility of combining lightsaber and blaster, among others.
Note also that the maps are larger, offering new corners to explore as you progress in the main story, new characters to meet and recruit for Greez's cantina, and new secrets to discover, allowing you to unlock new outfits. We're particularly fond of the Jedi Chambers, a level in its own right reminiscent of the sanctuaries in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, where you'll have to solve riddles to gain access to items and bonuses.
The only downside is that combat can be a little messy, especially when you have to fight a large number of enemies. But that doesn't stop us from enjoying the various planets on offer, and discovering Cal's story as he battles against the Empire.
In short, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is THE Star Wars game not to be missed under any circumstances, as we await the release, one day, of the opus developed by Ubisoft, as well as other nuggets to come... So get ready!
