For collectors of unique works, the Vignes bookshop, located in the 5th arrondissement, in the heart of the Latin Quarter, is brimming with treasures. The walls of this small store are lined with collectors' books: unique, old and rare editions, whether in terms of age (some books are centuries old) or status (signed, bound, stuffed or owned by a great name in literature).
As a result, book prices can vary widely. From a handful of euros for contemporary second-hand books, to several thousand or even tens of thousands of euros for the rarest pieces. So you can't really call it a bargain, unless you come for the 1 or 2 euro book bin.
Nonetheless, the Vignes bookshop is sure to appeal to wonder-seekers as well as tourists, particularly Americans, if Julie Féraud, who runs the store, is to be believed. In her experience, American tourists love these antique books, even if they don't speak French, and see them as wonderful collectors' items and decorative objects. For them, the bookshop also features a section of English-language paperbacks.
