Before admiring BMX at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the Olympic venue of the Vélodrome national de Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines is hosting the French BMX Freestyle Championships, for their fifth edition, on December 9 and 10, 2023! Nearly 3,000 people are expected to turn out over the weekend to cheer on the next Olympians on the modules and other ramps set up in the center of the track!
The best French Freestyle Park and Flat riders are expected to take part in this crucial stage in their preparation for the Olympics. On the program: impressive acrobatic figures on the velodrome ring, to decide between Laury Perez, Valeriia Liubimova, Anthony Jeanjean, Istvan Caillet, Luca Bertrand and Kevin Fabregue in park and Matthias Dandois, Alexandre Jumelin and Louise Seigneur in flat.
While Friday is reserved for training, on Saturday you can watch the qualifying rounds, while on Sunday all the men's and women's finals take place. But what's the difference between these two BMX disciplines? Flat BMX is practiced on a flat surface with 20-inch wheels, where athletes are judged on their balance and artistic imagination. The Park, on the other hand, is made up of ramp modules, where athletes must perform a succession of technical tricks for one minute.
