American dance company Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater announces its return to the French stage, from October 18 to 26 at the Palais des Congrès. World-renowned for revolutionizing modern dance by integrating elements of Afro-American culture, the dance company had not returned to the French stage for 7 years.
For 11 performances in Paris, the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater will be bringing to the stage the old ballets that have made their current reputation, as well as new creations never before presented in France. On stage, the 32-strong dance company will present a program alternating with an A and B program.
The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater offers you a choice of two programs: Program A, featuring new and previously unpublished works ( Me, Myself and You byElizabeth Roxas-Dobrish, CENTURY byAmy Hall Garner) and Program B, featuring highly successful works(Following the Subtle Current Upstream byAlonzo King and Dancing Spirit by Ronald K. Brown).
Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater was founded in 1958 by choreographer Alvin Ailey, who wanted to create a company that celebrated diversity and told stories of the African-American experience through dance. Based in New York, its most emblematic work, Revelations, created in 1960, draws on the roots of gospel, blues and spirituals. The dance company is characterized by a blend of classical, modern, jazz and African dance.
Today, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater continues to perform around the world, spreading the values of diversity, freedom of expression and inclusion through powerful, committed choreography. The company is an essential reference in the world of contemporary dance.
