The Count of Monte Cristo follows Edmond Dantès, a sailor unjustly imprisoned because of a plot. After 14 years in the Château d'If, he escapes, discovers hidden treasure on the island of Monte Cristo and adopts a new identity: the Count of Monte Cristo. Rich and powerful, he orchestrates a relentless vengeance against his traitors, while helping those who have been loyal to him. Monte Cristo, the musical to be staged at the Folies Bergère in 2026, is set to tell its story in music.
Although little information has yet been released about Monte Cristo at the Folies Bergère, the musical looks promising, following the success of The Count of Monte Cristo with Pierre Niney last June. The film boosted sales of Alexandre Dumas' book.
The latter is one of France's most famous writers, notably for his iconic adventure novels such as Les Trois Mousquetaires and Le Comte de Monte-Cristo. He left his mark on 19th-century literature with his captivating tales, often inspired by historical facts, even if the character of Edmond Dantès in Le Comte de Monte-Cristo. Prolific and innovative, his work has spanned the centuries and continues to be adapted today, notably with a new musical at the Folies Bergère in 2026.
