A family's journey above all, 4211 Km is the distance separating two countries and two destinies. A captivating play that traces a poignant journey of exile and freedom, back on stage at the Théâtre Marigny in Paris, from January 22, 2025.

4211 km runs from January 22, 2025 at the Théâtre Marigny, in the heart of the 8th arrondissement. The play tells the moving story of Mina and Fereydoun, an Iranian couple seeking refuge in France. Written and directed by Aïla Navidi, the play is distinguished by its narrative, which explores themes of exile, identity and the struggle for freedom. With outstanding performances by actors such as June Assal, Sylvain Begert and Benjamin Brenière, the play has received rave reviews for its delicate, emotional treatment of complex subjects.

4211 km resonates particularly with current events in Iran, offering a glimpse of resilience and the fight for freedom. It is a moving testimony to life under an authoritarian regime and the Iranian struggle for freedom, a struggle that has lasted for over four decades. Viewers are invited to contemplate the story of an uprooted family who, despite the challenges, never ceases to seek its place in society.

A universal piece, to return to the essence of deep human stories and questions of freedom and cultural identity. 4211km is a tribute to human resilience and a reflection on the ongoing struggle for freedom around the world.

The play was awarded 2 Molières at the 35th edition of the ceremony, which took place on May 6, 2024:

  • Molière for Private Theatre
  • Molière for Best Actress : for Olivia Pavlou-Graham
Our review:

If you haven't seen it yet, we strongly recommend you check out this little theatrical gem by Aïla Navidi. Inspired by her own story, she tells a moving and poignant tale that echoes today's current events. An important play to see, from a cultural and social point of view.
If theater is a form of cultural entertainment, it is fortunately also used to fight a battle, tell the story and make oneself heard. This is exactly what Aïla Navidi has chosen to do with her text and staging. We cry, we laugh and, above all, we become even more aware of what thousands of people are going through. The play is committed and necessary.
The staging is delicate and poetic, and it's great that it's rather sober, as the story doesn't need to be accompanied by heavy staging. Themes of exile, identity and the struggle for freedom are linked to love and family, in a story that is more than touching. Although a few scenes don't seem very useful to the story and make the play a little long, we can only salute this magnificent theatrical creation.
