From September 12, 2024, Dans les yeux de Monet comes to life at the Théâtre de la Madeleine. Written by Cyril Gély and directed by Tristan Petitgirard, the play stars Clovis Cornillac, Maud Baecker and Éric Prat. It plunges the spectator into the intimacy of the famous painter Claude Monet in 1892, when he shut himself away in Rouen to paint the Cathedral.
Clovis Cornillac plays Claude Monet, an artist tormented by doubt and darkness. Cornillac, known for his versatile talent, is joined by Maud Baecker, who plays a young model who disrupts Monet's daily life. Baecker, who came to prominence through her roles on TV and in film, brings a remarkable freshness and intensity to her character.
The synopsis takes us into Monet'screative world, exploring his internal struggles and artistic quest. The young model, initially a source of irritation, gradually becomes a muse, helping Monet rediscover his inspiration and lost grace. This intense face-off promises to captivate audiences with its deep dialogue and immersive atmosphere.
This play will appeal to all lovers of art and theater, as well as to enthusiasts ofImpressionism, whose 150th anniversary we celebrate in 2024. Those interested in the psyche of artists and creative processes will also find it of great interest. On the other hand, those who prefer lighter pieces may find this immersion in Monet's artistic torments less appealing.
