In this version ofAnton Chekhov 's The Seagull, it is the play directed by the young writer Treplev - a depiction of a world where "all lives have gone out" - that becomes the central pivot of the work. Scorned and ridiculed by the other characters, it continues to resonate in the background until the final act, carrying with it a presentiment that the characters have failed to grasp.

As a reminder, The Seagull tells the story of Konstantin Treplev, a young writer in search of new artistic forms, in love with Nina, who dreams of being an actress. But Nina falls under the spell of Boris Trigorin, a famous writer and the lover of Arkadina, Konstantin's mother. The play explores the characters' passions, disillusions and rivalries, showing their quest for recognition and love, but also their inability to escape their own inner tragedies.

Anton Chekhov is renowned for revolutionizing modern literature and theater with his innovative, minimalist, naturalistic style. His literary career began with humorous short stories published in newspapers, but he soon gained notoriety for his more profound and complex works, notably his famous plays such as The Seagull, Uncle Vanya and The Three Sisters. Stéphane Braunschweig 's new adaptation runs until December 22, 2024 at the Odéon - Théâtre de l'Europe. Audiodescription performances will be held on Thursday December 5 and Sunday December 8, 2024.
