For the 30th Anniversary of the Musée des Arts de la Mode, which was founded in 1986 on the initiative of Pierre Bergé, The Musée des Arts Décoratifs shows off 300 pieces that remind us of some of the key-moments of fashion history, from the 17th century to the very last creations.
The arrival of Fashion Arts in the collections of decorative arts was made possible by the reunion of the funds of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs and the Union Française des Arts du Costume.
The Museum funds already acquired more than 150 000 works of art, in which you can find textile, ancient costumes, couture, and emblematic silhouettes of ready-made clothing, but also accessories, hats and shoes.
Every single one of these “fashion moments” are put into their human, artistic and social context, embodying some of the most beautiful exemples of three centuries of creation, that we can usually see in the illustrations of reference books.
The Fashion Forward exhibition gathers 300 pieces of women’s, men’s and children’s fashion starting from the 17th century to nowadays, with major figures of the history of Couture, such as Charles-Frederick Worth, Jacques Doucet, Paul Poiret, Jeanne Lanvin, Madeleine Vionnet, Gabrielle Chanel, Christian Dior and Yves Saint Laurent.
