The Great War Museum commemorates November 11th with family events

The Musée de la Grande Guerre commemorates the 105th anniversary of the armistice of the First World War, with a special program on November 11, 2023.

On November 11, France celebrates the armistice of the First World War. The purpose of this commemoration is to honor fallen soldiers, and to remember the horrors of war, so that such actions are not repeated. This date is obviously important for the Musée de la Grande Guerre in Meaux, whose mission is to tell and educate the public about the history of the First World War.

This Saturday, November 11, 2023, to mark the 105th anniversary of the Armistice, the Meaux museum is organizing a day ofspecial events, open to children and adults alike. To mark the occasion, the institution is showcasing its collections and unveiling new educational tools to make history even more fascinating. Please note that some of the museum's activities require prior reservation.

Here's the program for this important day:

  • 10:30 am: Guided tour of "Wagons of the Great War"
    Discover the role of the railways in 1914-1918.
    Reservations required.

  • 2pm: Inauguration of the wagons in the museum grounds, with presentation of the immersive digital device

  • 3pm: "Little war train" family workshop
    Whether supplying supplies, transporting troops or wounded, trains were a major means of locomotion in the First World War. After discovering two wagons in the museum grounds, we invite you to create your own little train using simple materials. For all train drivers and stationmasters at heart!
    Ages 8 to 10 - booking required

  • 6pm: Theatrical tour " Première Ligne"
    Discover the museum as you've never seen it before! Actors from the Barefoot company, in residence at the Musée de la Grande Guerre, guide you through the various rooms of the museum, bringing to life a series of sketches telling the story of a couple plunged into the turmoil of war. Laughter and emotion, this visit is as instructive as it is moving, and will set the pace for this special day.
    Ages 8 and up - booking required

  • All day long: booklets and games for children, audio tours, and the presence of re-enactors on the permanent tour: Les Soldats de plomb and Scènes et Marne 1914.
