When art mobilizes to help refugees... The Palais de Tokyo hosts an exhibition around the issue of refugees and their conditions, We Dream Under The Same Sky, collectively initiated by Julie Boukobza, Chantal Crousel, Blanche de Lestrange, Niklas Svennung and Marine Van Schoonbeek. An event in collaboration with five associations held from September 16 to 21, 2017, open to all and offering a chance to contemplate numerous works donated by more than 25 international artists.
These include Adel Abdessemed (the creator of the statue of Zidane headbutting Materazzi, a work that made headlines in September 2012), Mona Hatoum, Glenn Ligon, Latifa Echakhch, Isa Genzken, Laura Owens, Annette Messager, Sturtevant, Wolfgang Tillmans, Cindy Sherman and Danh Vo, to name but a few.
These works are then auctioned off by event partner Christie's at the Azzedine Alaïa gallery, with proceeds going to five beneficiary associations working to welcome, care for and integrate refugees: migreurop, anafe, la cimade, le center Primo Levi and l'école Thot.
Round-table discussions, meetings with associations, screenings and other artists' performances are also organized to raise public awareness of the issue of refugees, their status and their condition.
