Bamboo in all its forms... The Musée du Quai Branly presents the exhibition Fendre l'air, l'art du bambou from November 27, 2018 to April 7, 2019. Featuring 160 bamboo objects from all eras, the exhibition tells the story of this little-known art form in the West.
While a bamboo basket may seem like a basic item to us, the Japanese elevated it to the status of a masterpiece at the start of the Meiji era, when tea ceremonies became an important part of city life. Why did this happen? Tea ceremonies called for flower arrangements (Ikebana) in bamboo containers, plain and simple!
Please note that it's been over 4 years since our last visit, so the place and experience may have changed.
