The Musée de l'Armée is devoting an exhibition to the Endless War in the East between 1918 and 1923. While conflicts ceased in Western Europe on November 11, 1918, they continued in the East and Near East until 1923, a part of history little known in France. On view from October 5, 2018 to January 20, 2019!
A l'Est, la guerre sans fin, the Musée de l' Armée's exhibition is devoted to the period 1918-1923, a period reputed to be "crazy" but where conflicts continued in the East and the Near East, a part of history little-known to the French!
The exhibition begins with the real images of the July 14, 1919 parade on the Champs-Elysées. 90 minutes of restored Gaumont Pathé footage. We then pass through a corridor of flags from the Russian, Ottoman, Austro-Hungarian and German Empires.

The A l'Est, la guerre sans fin exhibition retraces the fall of the Eastern European Empires, through revolutions, civil wars, major border changes and the creation of new states, with 270 works, objects and documents.

While conflicts ceased in Western Europe on November 11, 1918, war continued in the East and Near East until 1923: France tried, with difficulty, to restore stability to the region, but the various treaties established were soon contested. For example, the Treaty of Sèvres of August 10, 1920, between Turkey and the Allies, was radically revised and replaced, less than three years later, by the Treaty of Lausanne, signed on July 24, 1923.

The result was violence and instability in Eastern Europe, the repercussions of which are still visible today, and need to be explained a century after the end of the First World War.

Please note that it's been over 4 years since our last visit, so the place and experience may have changed.
