The Musée de l'Armée - Invalides is devoting an exhibition to the November 11, 1918 armistice, a veritable "historical and memorial caesura", from July 24 to September 30, 2018. An opportunity to delve back into our history lessons on the First World War.

The 1918 armistice studied from every angle... That's what the Musée de l'Armée is offering through the exhibition 1918, Armistice(s ) from July 24 to September 30, 2018. The exhibition retraces the history of the ceasefire agreement and the various failed attempts. From the relief aroused by the end of the war to the disillusionment born of the treaties, we contemplate a piece of French history studied at school but little analyzed in practice.

The aim? To show visitors and other history buffs how perceptions of the post-war period, beyond the general relief at the end of the fighting, " varied according to the time, nationality and status of the belligerents, whether victorious or defeated ".

The exhibition also attempts to highlight the previous armistices that attempted to bring the war to an end, but which unfortunately failed: in total, no less than seven ceasefires were signed between December 5, 1917 and November 13, 1918, without the conflicts ceasing.

Photographs, paintings, posters, heritage objects... Visitors can contemplate these and other media in an attempt to understand the ins and outs of this slice of history, as well as the consequences of this ultimate signing.

Please note that it's been over 4 years since our last visit, so the place and experience may have changed.
